I was looking at my Google reader earlier today to see how many blogs I am subscribed to. To my surprise, I had about 70 different blogs that listed. Thank God not everyone on my list posts every day; otherwise I wouldn’t be getting to client work.

How long does it take me to read through these blogs? I spend close to 2 hours every day reading any new posts. Of course I do not read every single post. I just scan the headlines, and if something interests me, I click on it and read it. If something really, really interests me, I jump on that blog to leave a comment. I normally open my Google reader within the first hour in the morning. I come back to see if there are any new blogs posted couple of times during the day.

How do I find these blogs? I definitely use mybloglog a lot. Since I was reader of top rank blog, they were one of the first marketing communities I subscribed to. The nice thing about Mybloglog is that it allows you to view other members of the communities you are subscribed to. So, I click on the community members in toprank; there are 1145 as of today. I am going through the list of 1145 bloggers by literally clicking on each of them, viewing their profile and visiting their blog. If their blog is interesting then I will add it to my Google reader. As of today, I am on page 7 of the top rank community; which means I have visited 235 blogs in the last couple of months.

Here is my list of blogs, not categorized in any alphabetical order (except for the first two!):

  1. TheVanBlog: Steve is always helpful in giving feedback and advice. He is probably one of the most active people I know in online forums.
  2. Lead Optimize: Chris’s comments are insightful. Each post is informative and will link you 3 or 4 blogs that are worth adding to your RSS reader.

Hi Matthew,

I will definitely check out your blog. I think I have been there few times already. Plus I do recognize the name from the make big money online blog.

Khalid

hmmm, that explains why Khalid falls behind on some of the work. 70 blogs per day! that is way too much. I have about 15 in my reader. So, is there a goal you are trying to reach?

hehehe, I have 70 blogs in my reader but I do not think I read 70 per day. Maybe I read 20 at best.

I do not know if I have a goal or a number I am trying to reach. Every few weeks I go back through my reader and remove some of the inactive blogs. I think my reader is very manageable at 70 but I am not sure how easy it would be to read something like 140 blogs.

Thanks for listing me first. I think I’m reading about 40 blogs daily or at least checking out the post titles.

I must have subscribed to over 100 though. So many I keep meaning to go back and look at in more detail.

40 seems to be the amount I can reasonably get to each day. Every few weeks I’ve been rotating some out of the mix and some into the mix.

@Mark, these are excellent blogs. Thanks for pointing them out to me. I added your blog to my reader as well.

@Steve, I actually have to go through my list regularly and try to prune it somewhat. You have always been helpful not only to myself but to hundreds if not thousands of forum members, so your blog deserves to be first.
