Have you ever been struggling with finding something to write about? Sometimes stress associated with other factors can really affect your writing and these are some techniques that I’ve practiced and have helped me when I’m in this situation.
- Always have a notebook nearby – You never know when you will be inspired with ideas, taking a few seconds to jot something down even after a conversation with a friend or co-worker will help inspire new ideas. Another great benefit of the notebook is that it helps you physically write. Sometimes it really helps me to actually write with paper and pen rather than staring at a blank screen.
- Take a break – It’s important to be able to walk away every once in a while to have an opportunity to clear your mind and refresh your ideas. You may want to start working on a different project, or just leave work all together for a while and do something else. I find it incredibly beneficial to go outside and get some fresh air. What are some things that you do to get away from work and get your creativity going?
- Read, read and read some more – reading anything and everything from the newspaper to other blogs to the latest novel from New York Time’s best seller list will inevitably instigate some or many ideas for you to comment and blog about.
- Change your environment – It may be as easy as leaving your desk and going to a multiple of different locations: another room in your house, a café, the library, out on the balcony or deck. Changing scenes will help you mentally get away from the “block” mode and give you a fresh perspective and creative ideas.
There are many other additional strategies that you can try to overcome blogger’s block. Try these first and let me know how it goes, I will add additional tips in the coming weeks to help provide more options in triumphing over this sometimes very overwhelming problem.
