Two heads are better than one. It’s true.

I am working on several cool projects right now. It’s an exciting time, and would be anyway, but especially for two reasons:

  1. Had what I (possibly exaggeration) call a year of hell
  2. I get to work with cool people

Point two is very important, because without those other cool people I would have never have gotten through my year of hell.

This is why I wanted to write this article Too many people think they can do everything alone.

The lone wolf idea is not noble, it’s not strong and self-reliant, it is dumb and a little arrogant. Really, working with others is not only more fun, you often produce something much better than if you had done your very best work solo.

I see this every day in my work. Not just the super-secret NDA commercial stuff either. Even the little things, like my Google Authority article would never have been as good without the help of Ryan my good friend from over the sea, through to fun things like my Fantasy Formula 1 competition (follow @fantasy_f1 to join in the fun) that I am building with my petrol head friend Gareth and has had great contributions from Range Rover obsessed friend Kieron.

You don’t have to involve others as joint venture partners, there are other options, such as:

  • Masterminds
  • Coaches
  • Forums
  • Email discussions
  • Brainstorms
  • Swaps
  • Comments
  • Twitter
  • Customers
  • Surveys

The main thing is you tap into that resource, get out of your own head and start interacting with the world.

For me the motivational and inspirational benefit of working with other people is just too great to go back to trying to do everything myself.

Try it, bring someone in to your inner circle and see what wonderful things you can create together!

I couldn’t agree more Chris! it’s good to know that there are people there for you during the good and in times of crisis, people that will challenge you to be diversified and dynamic in your thinking. Good luck with your projects!

Chris,
Teamwork and community help me big time. I would not be where I am without friends. Small groups of people change the world.

Hey! Nice article you got here. May I add some more…

The most ideal way to motivate employees would have to be to use both extrinsic motivation and intrinsic motivation. Compared when they are used separately, a combo would increase motivation while masking the individual cons and highlighting the pros of each type of motivator.
