The problem with going exclusively to HTML is that your emails will get caught in a lot of spam filters...so therefore, you need to have a text version of your stuff (which stinks because formatting a text email is a big pain in the arse..especially after you have built that "pretty" newsletter).

Jeff, it does. "Hiding" an opt-out option or otherwise making it extremely difficult to do so can make prospects anxious. It may even end up sending them on a mission to find it. And who knows what'll happen when they get to it? If it was a hassle to uncover, they might figure that you're trying your hardest to keep them on your list and spam them. Then, they might think, "I should probably cover my bases and beat them to the punch" and press that dreaded "unsubscribe" button...just in case. It can definitely work against you.

Thanks for your comment.

Good points all. Using a text only message would most likely make a terrible first impression, as if you are telling them that they are not dealing with a best of breed business.

I like to make it obvious in the first email that they can opt out easily. I get very few takers. It makes you look confident in the value of your communications.

Good work!
