Great post, as it relates to the most important markteing topic: perception versus reality. You're right, when it comes to purchase decisions, consumer perception trumps all else. That's why positioning is so important. It helps to have a good product (product features) and a good brand, but if I had to pick one or the other, I'll take the brand any day.

Great post. Another way of saying this is "perception creates reality", something cell biologists have known for awhile.
As far as diamonds go: they are not rare at all and only have real value, for us as consumers, when they are cut and polished and their market value is completely controlled by an international cartel who has created a shortage of supply. Hopefully, the products we all offer for sale will have a real intrinsic value as well as a "cosmetic/emotional" value.

Nice post and I agree that we must understand the needs of our clients first and then offer him/her the services which best can solve his problem and price should be charged according to the value of service provided...

Thanks

This definitely gives me food for thought, Chris. I've been making a list of the value I can offer local businesses interested in pursuing social media. Many will be difficult to convince, and I know I must offer services that they will perceive as useful. Thanks for inspiring more thought!
