I’ve been in corporate and marketing communications for over 20 years (!). While I started in the production of videos and AV presentations, writing kept rearing its ugly head into my life, starting with business proposals and video scripts. A number of years were spent at an agency, where we produced programs for a variety of clients and purposes, including sales, training, motivation and branding.
In the early 90’s, I took the opportunity to join a basement startup as their marketing and communications manager. While I would love to take all the credit for their later rise to seven-digit revenues, it was only partly my fault. Being the only communications person in a sea of techies, I got the chance to explore writing for a variety of media and purposes. When a brochure was needed, or advertising copy, or a letter to calm an irate client, I got the nod. I wrote my first web copy in 1995, but those were the “write it and forget it” days. It wasn’t until we started putting our newsletters online in 1998 that I gained a real appreciation for keeping things fresh and up-to-date.
Most recently, in my collaboration with Invesp, I have developed and written ebooks, white papers, landing pages and have contributed to their blog.
I live in beautiful Toronto, Canada, with my wife, two children and Ruby the beagle.
