We’ve been buzzing about this top marketers list for weeks at Invesp. We recently encouraged users to nominate their picks for a chance to win a free IPod Touch. And finally today, we’ve released the list.

But we want to hear from you now, after seeing the complete list: Who do you think deserved to be on the list but didn’t make it. Who do you think made the list but really didn’t deserve it? Give us your input.

Where’s Seth Godin in this list?

He’s just released his BEST book ever, TRIBES – and I’d hoped to see him in your list.

It is cool to see that three people I voted on made the list.

Mike Filsaime, Frank Kern, John Chow

Really cool list with a lot of famous Online Marketers.

Where is Art Jonak, Mark Davis, Mike Ray?

Jeremiah Owyang Says -- December 18th, 2008 at 12:48 pm

I’m glad to make the list! quick note, my name is missing the “H” at the end!

Thanks

Ayat Says -- December 18th, 2008 at 12:48 pm

@Martin Some of those names were indeed nominated, but not enough votes :) I’ll post our process shortly.

Barry Schwartz Says -- December 18th, 2008 at 12:54 pm

Nice list, nice to see so many folks in the SEO in there.

One quick question, can you write up the methodology used or this was just one of those fun lists?

Ayat Says -- December 18th, 2008 at 1:00 pm

@Berry Schwartz we definitely followed a methodology. I will be posting that shortly :) Glad you enjoyed the list.

Pete Seales Says -- December 18th, 2008 at 1:23 pm

What about Rich Schefren?

Jesse Liebman Says -- December 18th, 2008 at 1:47 pm

I’m not sure that I agree with Guy Kawasaki being listed at the second most influential “Online” marketer. If having a popular blog in the field of marketing with posts on the forms of internet media is all it takes to be considered for this list I feel this list is out of touch.

Ayat Says -- December 18th, 2008 at 2:06 pm

@Jesse Liebman the nominations were based on the votes received from top marketers themselves http://www.invesp.com/blog/sales-marketing/how-did-we-rank-the-top-100-marketers-of-2008.html . And really, having the blog is NOT the only reason people voted for Guy. However, his utilization of social media to promote his blog might be a something to consider. :)

I love these lists, if I am not on them they are rubbish and if they are on them they represent the fountain from where all truth can be found.

Personally I would have put Shoemoney and Calacanis in the top ten, but what these lists are about are generating conversation.

And it’s always fun when people say, “hey, how come (insert the person you have never heard of) is not on the list.

Samer Says -- December 18th, 2008 at 3:20 pm

there is Gaith Saqer from ArabCrunch http://arabcrunch.com

Loren McDonald Says -- December 19th, 2008 at 2:29 am

Fun list – lot of great people on it. Did find it interesting that not a single person who is currently in the “email marketing” industry made the list.

Certainly have a lot of thought leaders in the industry – guess email just isn’t sexy enough.

Scott Wilson Says -- December 20th, 2008 at 11:04 am

Who are the people in the photograph – I only recognize half of them. Who is the woman on the lower left?

Ayat Says -- December 20th, 2008 at 11:09 am

@Scott Wilson that’s Linda Bustos of Elastic Path (Getelastic.com blog). Other individuals in the pic include Guy Kawasaki, Chris Hughes, Arianna Huffington, Brian Clark, Rand Fishkin, and Aaron Wall.

Charlie Jones Says -- December 20th, 2008 at 7:28 pm

Also, Ed Dale should have been on this list.

He started and runs the largest online marketing training program in the world –

About 50,000+ ppl participate in the 30 Day Challenge (www.thirtydaychallenge) each year.

Charlie…

Zennie Abraham Says -- December 20th, 2008 at 9:55 pm

Hi,

Yeah, you missed me! I run a network of 100 blogs, have a Twitter ranking of 98.7, have a YouTube channel drawing over 3 million views to date, and my main blog Zennie62.com was credentialed for the Democratic National Convention. We work with PR firms and have done an excellent job. See http://www.sbson.com

Murray Johnson Says -- December 21st, 2008 at 11:34 am

I think you missed the boat altogether. These are definatlely not the top marketers.

Manish Pandey Says -- December 21st, 2008 at 12:20 pm

A good list, you have there. I would also like to add few of my friends, who deserve a place:
1. Jeff Quipp (President, Search Engine People)
2. Tal Siach (Co-founder, Walyou.com)
3. Leo Babauta (Zenhabits.net)

Mason Says -- December 23rd, 2008 at 5:57 pm

Yeah, where is Seth Godin? I thought he’d be in the Top 10, if not number 1!

He certainly needs to be on this list and without him on it, it’s means nothing to me.

CCNA Training Videos Says -- December 26th, 2008 at 11:54 pm

I think the list is pretty on point. I would agree that some of the people in the top 50 should probably be in the top 10, but overall it’s a subjective argument no matter how you look at it.

What is great though, is learning about some of the more influential people in marketing that I actually hadn’t heard of, and now I have some new blogs and sites to follow, or at least familiarize myself with.

Great list guys, keep up the good work.

Eric Ward Says -- January 1st, 2009 at 11:48 am

Should I consider it an honor to be left off this list since nearly half this list are either my current clients, past clients, and/or refer clients?

Just curious :)

Mike Lewitz Says -- January 2nd, 2009 at 9:44 am

I’m wondering if guys like Jeff Walker and Eben Pagan were on the 2007 list? Without Jeff, some of these guys would be nobody’s.

And I totally agree with Charlie… The fact that Ed Dale didn’t even make the list is kinda strange (yet, Mike Filsaime did -nothing against Mike).

If you leave Seth Godin out of the list you are talking about another discipline, regardless of your methods!

Jim Donovan Says -- January 6th, 2009 at 4:01 pm

One person who definitely belong there is Ken McArthur from JV Alert Live. He’s launched more relationships between marketers than anyone and has provided a platform for many of the people on your list.

More importantly, Ken has harnessed the power of people to create impact, including a campaign for teen suicide prevention awareness.

Lauren Ellington Says -- April 18th, 2009 at 9:18 am

This is definately not accurate.

Where’s:

Seth Godin
Gary Vaynerchuk
Brad Fredricks
Ed Dale

Those are obvious. Seth Godin famous for his books, and amazing blog, brilliant videos (WOW really?). Brad F. famous for his blog and known thought leader of digital strategy and trends. Gary V, famous for his video blog, and awesome speeches.

This list stinks of missing some key figures, and giving way too much credit to ones who do not deserve any credit.

Those three names are responsible for marketing strategies and influence of more people then Guy K. Everyone knows Guy K is too noisy.

Wow, better luck next year.

Dan Errbs Says -- May 21st, 2009 at 6:05 pm

Someone from ReachLocal should be on this list, considering many of their knockoffs made it.

Kevin Ostler Says -- May 28th, 2009 at 10:36 am

Where’s Seth Godin, Russ Klein, and BradFredricks?

Did i miss them on the list?

I’d like to nominate David Chapman of Webrageous Studios for the 2009 list. He heads up the only pay per click management firm with a pay for performance pricing model. Webrageous.com is a unique website with video testimonials from clients and highlights of the results they’ve achieved for their clients.
